More THAN
2600 YEARS
of HISTORY
Utiel Requena winemaking culture reaches 2600 years of history. Archaeological sites found in this place endorse the production of wine and its uninterrupted commercialization from the Iberia era to the present.
Dozens of wineries carved in stone, such as Las Pilillas de Requena, amphoras, documents and grape seeds founded and studied, led the wine culture of Utiel Requena to the origins of wine on the Iberian Peninsula.

There are four Round Cellars in Spain and one of them is the headquarters of the Regulatory Board from DO Utiel-Requena. This building, located in Utiel and constructed in 1891, is an architectural marvel. It is too a Museum of Wine where it collected the history, tradition, and the wine culture of this land.

In these last decades Utiel-Requena has embarked on a journey of innovation and renewal, driven by a deep appreciation of its traditions and the passion of its community of growers and winemakers.

A LAND BLESSED
BY THE VINE

HOME / CLIMATE

The climate is Mediterranean with continental features due to its elevation of 720m above sea level. In this land, there are high-temperature fluctuations between day and night and you can appreciate this in the acidity in the red wines, and in the freshness in the white and rose wines.

The LAND
of BOBAL
in SPAIN

The red variety native and standard is the Bobal, the most important in this land. The bobal variety is supposed to the 64’5% of the total hectares in Utiel-Requena, a total amount of 20.500 ha. From those, 8.950 ha are old vineyards which are more than 45 years old.

Our native grape, Bobal, has perfectly adapted to the region’s climate and it has a high enological potential that gives us wines with extraordinary organoleptic qualities that perfectly convey the character and personality of DO Utiel-Requena on the market.

In this land, nearly 31.500 hectares of vineyards are worked by 4.500 winegrowers. We have 115 wineries that generate more than 200 million kg of production annually.
This DO highlights its ecological potential. Thanks mainly to its natural factors, Utiel-Requena is recognized as holding 78% of the ecological vineyard of the Valencian Community. Furthermore, 52 of our wineries are certificated as ecological by the proficient institution (CAECV).
